This motif is taken from a circular bronze plaque found at Talyllyn, North Wales. It is an ornamental form of the Triskele, a three-limbed circular device which was central to the art and beliefs of the Celts. The original, dating from the early 1st Century BC can be seen at the National Museum of Wales in Cardiff.
