The famous cross of Nevern, Wales, was constructed in medieval times and dedicated to Saint Brynach, who lived in the late 5th and early 6th centuries. He was a native of Cemaes who, after a pilgrimage to Rome and a sojourn in Brittany, returned to Wales to lead an ascetic life in Nevern. The cross was carved in the 10th or 11th century, and legend says that a cuckoo landed on the cross and sang on April 7th, the saint’s feast day
