This handmade pictish pendant is a replica of a lead disc found on a small tidal island off the coast of Orkney. It is believed to date from around the 7th century. The triple spiral is called the Triskelion and dates to the Neolithic era, and gained greater popularity 500BC onwards. It has many meanings, including life-death-rebirth, spirit-mind-body, mother-maiden-crone, past-present-future, power-intellect-love, and creation-preservation-destruction. It is also believed to represent three Celtic worlds; the spiritual world, the present world and the celestial world. Like the Trinity knot, the number 3 holds a special symbolism.
